Billie Marten - Dog Eared

First of all, happy New Year from us at Listenings! We have been all over the place over the past year - chronologically, that is. We have recommended some of our favourite 2025 releases and dug up some earlier pearls, ranging from 1969 up to 2023. Thanks for sticking with us, we hope you enjoy listening to these albums as much as we enjoy recommending them.

With 2026 slowly grinding into gear, please allow me to look back once more. Putting all my favourite songs from 2025 into one playlist was relatively easy (listen to the result here), but picking one favourite album was harder. Even though I feel like I still cannot choose, one strong contestant was an album that, at first listen, stood out to me by its slow, confident, and warm sound: Dog Eared , by the British songwriter Billie Marten. During my first listens, it was a pleasure to discover the beauty of the songs, and on returning to it often, these songs feel like a warm embrace that works as a perfect companion for many situations - for example, a slow and soothing start to a new year.
