Jeremiah Chiu & Sofia Honer - Different Rooms
Mark
Music-wise, this time of the year is my favorite time.
It’s all thanks to the end of the year lists that give me a proper tailwind.
One of these lists, brought my attention to Jeremiah Chiu & Sofia Honer’s Different Rooms.
For some reason, I completely missed this release, even though I absolutely loved their previous work, Recordings from the Åland Islands.
Different Rooms goes deep. It doesn’t force a specific mood too much, but if it does it’s kind of nostalgic, and psychedelic. The songs are like an ocean of synthesizer and acoustic instruments (often violin (a little subdued, not the annoying kind)), and the vibe is sort of implicitly rhythmic, almost hypnotic, through repeating motifs, not percussion per se.
With this release I didn’t make the same mistake, and subscribed to the label’s (International Anthem) mailing list. They have many other great stuff too.
