Letta Mbulu - In The Music The Village Never Ends

About ten years ago during Afro heyday, virtually every DJ in Amsterdam carried the down-tempo ‘Normalizo’ of this album. I heard it so often, I couldn’t listen to the South African Letta Mbulu for a long while. However, recently I started playing the album again because of the last track, ‘The Village’. It takes me back to a memorable moment at the end of a beautiful night in the basement of De School. At around 6 in the morning, after an hour of spacey twisted techno, this uplifting call-and-response tune woke me up and let me leave the club with a big smiling face.

Last week’s sun makes me believe winter is over and spring is finally here, and it gives me the same joy I felt during that moment in the dark basement.
