Loidis - One Day
Mark
One Day was released in August, and has succeeded in soundtracking my late-summer.
It’s been hard to miss in the circles where I browse the web. Likely because I’ve been a fan of the artist’s other alias Huerco S, which created this introspective depth-plunging ambient album, For Those Of You Who Have Never (And Also Those Who Have).
On One Day , the ambient makes place for house-y grooves, but the ambient remains in its undercurrents. It has this four-to-the-floor beat, and characteristic house sounds, but those are the only genre-conform aspects of it. Ive read it being called Outsider House.
When I shared it with Stef, he commented that it’s like the entire thing is low-pass filtered. It meanders and slowly builds and fades in trance inducing ways. Maybe that combination of meandering and low-pass feeling contributes to what I like about it: it’s not so intrusive. That’s often important, because then I can still work when listening to it, which is my main activity when listening to music anyway. I know, that’s not really in the philosophy of Listenings , so you can see it as a kind of confession. Nonetheless, it probably is for many people, and almost a genre-defining aspect nowadays. Still, I can highly recommend also doing at least one deep-listening session with it. Deeply rewarding!
Curious what y’all think!
