Listenings will kick off with Signs by Purelink.
It’s my favorite/most listened to album of last year and it would feel weird not to choose it.
First time I really listened to it closely was on a flight, having the album on repeat, spacing out, half slumbering, half gazing at the clouds. Not sure how many listening cycles I had but it really stuck with me since then.
The ambient airy pads with deep beats fit really well with being 12km high in the sky, but at the same time it has that dubby underwater feeling. It’s so soothing, like getting a head massage at the bottom of the sea.
For me it also showed how ambient can live in symbiosis with rhythm. Not that it hasn’t been done before, but it’s just done so well here that it shifted a little what ambient is to me.
