Single Gun Theory - Millions, Like Stars in My Hands
Camiel

When thinking about the plethora of new music releases that flood us on a daily basis, I sometimes find myself nostalgically wondering what it would have been like to live on the other side of the world in the pre-internet age, waiting for a weekly shipment of new albums considered good enough to take up precious space. I would have suspected that records and trends would take longer to reach the land down under, but the album I am recommending this Monday morning proves that the Aussies were really on trend, despite the physical distance.
Millions, Like Stars in My Hands, Daggers in My Heart, Wage War , as this album - slightly annoyingly - is called, came out in 1991 and already boasts much of what was yet to become the predominant sound of the 90s. The crisp drum sounds that became prominent in the decade’s trip hop boom? Sampling of obscure, traditional Asian records? New agey synth strings? It’s all already audible on this early 90s gem.
In addition to clearly possessing clairvoyant qualities, the band also delivers a really enjoyable album that makes me wonder why it has not received as much love as some of its contemporaries. Now, maybe that’s where the long distance from Europe to Australia played a role… It’s up to us now to right that wrong.
