Sylvie - Sylvie

Sometimes, I just want music to be soothing—no weird noises, no dissonance, just beautiful sounds to ease me through. At the same time, I can be quite critical of soothing music: it should not be too cheesy, too easy, or too sterile. Records that strike that perfect balance are rare. However, for today’s recommendation, Sylvie’s self-titled album, I found one.____
The album was created when Ben Schwab (who also plays in Drugdealer) found some old cassettes in the attic of his parents’ house, containing recordings from his dad’s band in the ’70s. Loving the vibe, he gathered some friends to record an album in the same spirit. Though multiple vocalists appear (Sam Burton, Marina Allen, and Ben’s dad), the album feels like a unified whole, radiating warmth. Soothing in just the right way. Enjoy.
