The Kills - Midnight Boom

Earlier this month I’ve had the pleasure to see The Kills play Paradiso. Even though the album they released this year was quite decent, I will make the sorry judgment that their creative peak lies in the past. No real shame, as this is how things go for most. After this bad news I do have some good news for them too: their 2008 breakthrough record ‘Midnight Boom’ sounds as cool as ever, showing its first signs of timelessness. After their first two albums being firmly rooted in bluesy and grainy guitar sounds, this record embraces the available technology in a way that clearly sparked creativity while even enhancing their already sizeable natural cool. The deliciously sleazy U.R.A Fever, the upbeat Cheap & Cheerful, the positively shrill Tape Song - true delights. Especially recommended during a bike ride in the dark.
