Todd Terje - It's Album Time
Stef
This album recommendation might be old for some. Others might only know the hit song ‘Inspector Norse’, which was very popular at parties over ten years ago. ‘It’s Album Time’ (2014) is one of those dance LP’s I often play entirely, as the songs smoothly transition into the next, and have a coherent Space Disco sound. Also, I get reminded of this album a lot when I hear similarities in other music. Like last weekend, at Parallel festival near Barcelona. Denato Dozzy played ‘Apex Break’ by Torn Hawk and Black Deer (2025), and the crazy arps immediately made me think of Terje’s ‘Preben Goes to Acapulco’. When I shared this reference with a friend, he agreed and showed me that in turn Terje’s track was based on ‘Solstice’ by Brian Bennet (1978). I guess we live in a postmodern remake culture, that just keeps on giving. Speaking of remakes, be sure to check out the original version of ‘Johnny and Mary’ by Robert Palmer, which is nicely covered by Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music on ‘It’s Album Time’.
